The Tiny Whoop Fireball by Michael Durr

f/8, ISO 200, Approximately 25 second exposure

Michael Durr, @instadurr, and FPV drone racer Paul Nurkkala, @nurkfpv, wanted to create a light painted scene in camera.

To achieve this Michael had a Canon 5D MarkIV set to bulb with a trigger he set to hold at the start of the scene. He then popped a Godox AD400 flash on Paul posing. After the flash, Paul walked over to The Pixel Stick and painted the fireball while Michael took the flash head off the stand and walked behind the camera. Once Paul finished painting the fireball he then flew a Tiny Whoop drone through the scene and Michael popped the flash again at the appropriate location to illuminate the drone. After that, Michael walked back to the camera and closed the shutter. We were very happy with how the two of us were able to achieve this scene in one frame.

Check out the BTS video below. We shot this video on an iPhone with the lights on so you could see how we made our moves. The final image was captured in complete darkness.

This was the image captured in the BTS video with the lights on. This shows how accurately we had this choreographed.

Ross and Jackie Wimer by Michael Durr

It was an absolutely perfect fall day. Ross and Jackie Wimer said “I do” at the beautiful Nedihammer, located at 2102 E Washington Street in Indianapolis. The morning hours and ceremony were beautiful. We had plenty of time for an intimate portrait session at Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Garden and made it back to the Neidhammer before the cocktail hour ended. It was great to work with such a fun and easy going couple. Thank you both for selecting me to capture your special day and I wish you the best as you continue to build your lives together.

52 Frames by Michael Durr

2017 52 frame photo challenge. I admittedly fell off the wagon last year, but I am going to give this another go. I love the inspiration and the extra push to get off my bottom and shoot.

Feel free to follow my on Instagram @instadurr or check back here for updated images from the challenge.

Ronnie and Stephanie by Michael Durr

I am so happy for Ronnie and Stephanie. It was an absolutely amazing day to venture around the north side of Chicago. We stopped by some of their favorite spots and even had time for a wardrobe change. I'm looking forward to the winter wedding.

Go Cubs!

2016: 52 Week Photo Challenge by Michael Durr

Dogwood Photography Presents

52 WEEK PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE

The weekly challenge will be in one of 3 categories:

Portrait: Portrait photography is really about capturing the essence of a person in an image. A portrait image can range from a classic portrait to candid, or from street photography to a selfie. Each time this category comes up we will dive into a different area of portrait photography. The main focus should always be a person/persons (or maybe a pet).

Landscape: In the context of the #dogwood52 photography challenge, this category is pretty broad covering both traditional landscapes, and some non-traditional areas such as urbanscapes. Don’t be afraid to really explore your surroundings in this category. If the focus is the environment you are in, it will qualify as Landscape in this category.

Artistic Impression: When this category comes up, you really have room to express yourself. You can interpret the assignment literally or figuratively. Unlike the other two categories that are more focused, the main focus of this category is to let your creativity shine.

I wanted to do this challenge to help inspire me throughout the year. Check back each week for a new photo.
